Navel oranges are laden with juice and eat nicely. Before juicing oranges grate the zest or peel oranges. Store in the freezer in a plastic bag or airtight container, so if you need an orange rind to flavouring a cake, muffins or dessert you will have some at hand. It sure beats wasting it.
Navelina is an early-season Navel orange. It produces medium to medium-large fruit that is somewhat pear-shaped. The navel is tiny, and the peel is silky with a nice red-orange coloration. The flesh is extremely juicy, and the sweetness is nice, but the flavor is not quite up to Washington Navel standards.
